The tuner will come in handy if you go outside the parameters the computer can't adjust to.
Ported intake manifold upgrade#
No tuner needed for that, now that your shoving more air in, you need to get it out, so you upgrade the exhaust, now you make even more power, no tuner needed for that. If you add more air to the cylinders via ported intake and throttle body and cai the engine will still adjust the fuel and you will make more horsepower. If all I get isĪ tuner with one size fits all engine ( 89 octane tune 93 octane tune kinda setting) then I'm at the mercy of the person who wrote the program.Īnd hopefully one of those curves will produces a positive change for my work. The tuner is nothing more then a recurve of factory settings, once I maximize the air in and out the tuner will help to maximize my effertsĭepending on the amount of change I can do with a tuner. The tuner won't make it easier for the air to get into the engine, you have to do this with physical work, the tuner won't let the exhaust flow easier, you have to make the exhaust change, the tuner won't port your intake, you have to do this. You still have to do the work to make power, it's not all in the "tuner". timing and jetting is fine tuning, like a tuner. just like a regular ol' engine, an older engine you can change intakes put on different carbs and add headers and dual exhaust and it will run harder and faster even before you change the timing and jets. You can still improve on the exhaust, and the way the air enters the engine before these tuners come out. tuner is nothing more then a recurve of timing and fuel and a few other details. And it is one (as far as I know) is made up by some one who has no idea what you have done to your car.
Ported intake manifold mods#
It just cracks me up how some think an engine won't respond to mods without a tuner. Your engine under all this plastic and wires still respond to old school tricks I'm telling you from experience you don't need to wait for a tuner, what ever youĬan do to increase the air flow to and from the engine it will make more hp, you don't need a tuner for that, of course if you add a turbo, supercharger, or really mess with things (drastic changes) then you need to recurve the timing and fuel for that.Īs far as your basics mods, helping air get in and air get out, like what I'm doing, the car will respond and give back. I was the computer to my engines, I made the fuel changes and timing changes and shift changes and so on.

I have been hot rodding for over 25 years, built all my engines, tested and raced them.

I have a K&N cai set up that just came in last week, fastman throttle body thats on it's way and I'm going to take off the intake manifold and do my own porting. In the next few weeks I'm looking at taking off some parts on top of my 3.6
